Rich Getting Richer Poor is Getting Poorer

For a long time, I’ve heard this cliché but did not pay it much attention. Recently, while going through Gary Keller’s book The Millionaire Real Estate Investor, I heard something which really opened my eyes. It has to do with how the “Rich” and the “Poor” use the money they earn. The rich use their money to buy assets that generate money for them. On the other hand, the poor use their money to buy belongings. These possessions very rarely appreciate in value and definitely do not generate any revenue for them.

At first, when you look at the picture you may see a patch through the woods, but now let’s consider it from someone else’s perspective. First, the path is wide which symbolizes it has been frequently traveled. Next, there are rocks and other debris along the patch symbolizing the difficulties or potential hazards that must be overcome along the way. Finally, the path is unpaved a symbol that journey isn’t going to be easy.

Consider now the sacrifices it takes to become rich. What did that person have to overcome along the path to riches? How many times did he or she slip and fall?

So, why has this cliché become ingrained in the American psyche? That is a discussion for another day.
