You’re not a leaf; Take control of your life
If you’ve listened to the news lately it would seem that you have little control over what happens to you. If it’s not the COVID-19 virus, then it’s global climate change that will be the demise of mankind. Additionally, if you are poor or a person of color the system is preventing you from getting ahead.
While it’s important not to undermine the gravity of the problems posed by the pandemic, climate changes, or racial inequality, it’s critical not to discount what one can do to make their lives better.
People face difficult circumstances on a daily basis. Some are working two or more jobs, but find it difficult if not impossible to meet the monthly obligations. Others hate what they’re doing or where they live, but contend there are no other options for them. Yet others are marginalized because of race or socioeconomic status. The feelings of hopelessness about one’s circumstance can overwhelm the most optimistic person making them feel trapped. It’s no doubt, life is difficult when you have obligations and more so when others are depending on you.
In the face of those circumstances, many will pray for a blessing while maintaining the status quo.
Feel like a leaf blowing in the wind with no control over your destiny?
STOP!!! You can do better. It’s time to take control of your life.
Getting out of the rut requires; a desire, dedication, and determination.
Desire
Desire is the yearning to be in a better place. It’s the dream where you see yourself no longer struggling. The desire sets the foundation for you to do something to make a change in your situation. Without desire, you will be trapped, since you can’t see yourself in a better place.
Dedication
Dedication is the commitment to doing what it takes to achieve one’s objective. It’s what makes you forgo sleep or a night on the town with friends to study. Without dedication, you will be easily distracted and make excuses why you can’t work towards your goal.
Determination
Determination is a key factor in achieving one’s goals. While some may consider it to be similar to dedication, it is separated here as the keen focus beyond the immediate objective to achieving your overall goal. It is the energy that fuels one’s commitment to continue when tired and everything is saying you should quit. It’s that little voice in your head that provides motivation telling you just a little further, one more step, or look how far you’ve come.
